In-person betting was taking place in Iowa beginning in 2019. January 1 of 2021 marked the debut on online betting. Before that date, there was betting to be had, but customers were required to sign up at a physical casino first. Ten sportsbooks currently operate in Iowa – mostly the big industry names, such as BetMGM, FanDuel, DraftKings, and etcetera. All sports are fair game for bettors, with the exception of college player prop markets, which are in place, you know, to protect the integrity of “amateur” college sports. Most states have imposed a similar ban on college player prop betting.
