As of late 2022, California does not authorize online or in-person sports betting. There were two measures on the ballot for the 2022 election. Both were soundly defeated and both were tied to licenses on Native American Land. The major sportsbooks are trying to get into California by partnering with Native American tribes, but the tribes want no part of it. Of the 50 states, California is considered the Holy Grail of sportsbook markets as the most populous state in the country. There could be new developments in the next year or the years after and we expect the lobbyists to pull out all the stops and pressure California officials to get with the program.
