KANSAS SPORTS BETTING

The Sunflower state has been a surprising adopter of online and in-person sportsbook gambling. There was already some tribal gambling taking place. The tribes could possibly be on the receiving end of an update and upgrade to their gambling compacts if they can form alliances with one or more online sportsbook operators. The Kansas law passed in 2022 and sportsbooks began taking bets on September 1, the first day of the 2022 – 2023 NFL season. The state got underway with six licensed sportsbooks and two casinos accepting sports bets and will permit up to 12 online sportsbooks. Two other casinos are expected to start taking sports bets in the coming months. The state law provides for betting kiosks in retail locations, including the stadiums where the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals play. These will be set up and supervised by casinos. Kentucky – There is no legal gambling taking place in Kentucky. It could be that the sportsbooks, like us, cannot find Kentucky. The Kansas State Legislature looked as though it had a bill ready to pass, but it suffered a sudden demise when the bill that had made it through the house could not secure enough Republican support in the state senate. It would have given racetracks control over retail and online operators.
